Most significantly, six steel girders and crash-tested timber bridge rails will be installed, restoring the bridge for safe vehicular and truck traffic once again. This $1.9 million contract will be complete in early 2011.

Bridge Replacement – Fall River Avenue over Interstate I-195 Seekonk, MA The construction of a two-span continuous bridge and the prior removal of the existing multi-span structure require precision planning and coordination on this Mass Highway project in Seekonk. At over $7 million estimated value, the new bridge will have integral abutments on steel piles and a high performance concrete superstructure. Although completion is not expected until mid-2012, traffic will flow throughout construction in the multi-phase construction schedule.
Construction of the Norwottuck Bike Path Northampton, MA This project consists of constructing a bicycle path along an abandoned railroad bed in the Florence section of Northampton. This path will connect to an existing bike path at Bridge Road and extends through Look Memorial Park to the center of Leeds. The project includes clearing, excavation, hot mix asphalt paving, bridge reconstruction/rehabilitation and both stone masonry and cement concrete retaining walls. Bicycle safety railing and signage are also part of this project. This $1.8 million project for MassHighway will be completed in less than 2 years.
Bridge Reconstruction – Routes 32 & 122 (Barre Road) over the East Branch of the Swift River Petersham, MA This project is part of the Commonwealth’s $3 billion Accelerated Bridge Program established to repair Massachusetts’ deteriorating bridges. Highway Reconstruction and Safety Improvements on Route 6 and Edgehill Road Bourne, MA This $3.1 million MassHighway project will improve the safety and flow of traffic at the intersection of Route 6 (Scenic Highway) and Edgehill Road with the installation of a traffic signal, raised concrete medians, and the widening of the Scenic Highway travel lanes and shoulders in the vicinity of the intersection. Edgehill Road is the access road for the Bourne Elementary School currently under construction and scheduled to be open in August, 2009. Project completion is scheduled for 2010.
Bridge Replacement - Kinne Brook Road over the Westfield River Chester, MA This Massachusetts Highway Department project involves replacing the existing two span bridge originally built in 1938, with a longer, two span structure in a new location approximately 10 feet upstream. The new bridge will consist of concrete box beams supported by reinforced concrete abutments and pier supported on drilled shafts. When the new bridge is complete, the existing bridge will be demolished and the river banks restored. White water kayak access under the bridge will need to be maintained during construction of this $2.75 million project, which is expected to be completed by November 2009.
